Technical Director, Business Development
Position Summary
ION is in search of a full-time Technical Development Director to support the overall commercialization of ION’s transformative energy transition technology. The goal of the Technical Development Director is to be the primary technical resource for all commercial activities. Responsibilities include assisting the business development team, expanding revenue through partner development, creating or overseeing technical proposals, and evaluating new markets. This position will contribute to a team of engineers and report directly to the Vice President, Business Development and Sales.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
• Collaborates and manages relationships between the business development and engineering groups
• Leads the development of technical proposals for prospective customers with support from the ION engineering team
• Sufficiently understands technical concepts, customer requirements and ION processes and technology and be able to communicate and provide guidance to potential customers
• Leads and supports client presentations from a technical perspective
• Supports partnership development to expand new business opportunities with industry leaders
• Supports the evaluation of adjacent market opportunities for technology and supports the R&D development pathway
• Leads technical competitive analysis and intelligence
• Supports the development of, and performs updates to, project risk registry for assigned customer projects
• Represents the ION engineering and business development team with key project partners and customers
• Provide technical support for new business opportunities (project development, for example)
Qualifications, Education, and Experience:
• Bachelor's degree or higher in Engineering or 15+ years of relevant experience in industrial oil and gas facility emissions reduction and emerging technologies integration.
• Detail-oriented with exceptional relationship building, risk assessment, and critical thinking skills
• Learning agility, including the ability to learn and then utilize technical knowledge within the sales process
• Excellent ability to quickly assess problems and formulate strategies to overcome issues
• Demonstrates the ability to adapt to changing priorities and circumstances
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to effectively communicate and translate complex technical information into meaningful information for non-technical individuals
• Skilled at maintaining positive relationships with clients, including actively listening to their needs, and providing timely and effective solutions
• Professionally represents the company and builds trust with external stakeholders
• Demonstrates proactive behavior; stays abreast of advancements in technologies, engineering standards, regulations, etc.
• Proficient in MS Office with Salesforce a plus
• Solid understanding of methods and techniques used in CO2 capture from flue gas preferred
• Demonstrated experience creating compelling and well-structured proposals preferred
• Willing and able to travel approximately 30% for customer meetings, conferences, and various market development activities as needed
Position Type/Working Conditions:
• This is a full-time position working standard business hours. This position may require the flexibility to work diverse schedules, including evenings, weekends, and holidays. On occasion, this position may require extensive travel.
• This position is for the Houston, TX office. The employee is required to be primarily in the office with some remote work allowable with prior approval.

Sr. Process Engineer, RD&T
Position Summary
ION is searching for a Senior Process Engineer to support the Research, Development, and Technology (RD&T) team currently involved in interpreting, modeling, and delivering results within ION’s pilot test program. Simulation tools rigorously built and verified by the Senior Process Engineer will then be used to directly support ION’s design of large-scale commercial CO2 capture facilities worldwide. ION’s employees are a group of exceptional technical and business professionals and are looking for similarly talented individuals who share our vision and mission. The Senior Process Engineer broadly leads modeling and simulation projects based on lab and pilot data from the RD&T team. The ideal candidate will have a mastery of first-principles mass transfer models in gas/liquid or gas/solids systems that can be translated to commercial scale, million-tons-per-annum CO2 capture projects. This position provides meticulous support and well-reasoned solutions in support of ION’s commercialization path of CO2 capture products. The position will require a hands-on, innovative, detail-oriented individual that has the capability to lead development and optimization of process models according to a schedule that fully leverages ION’s wide range of pilot data. They must be able to develop solutions to complex problems that require a high degree of ingenuity at the cutting edge of current research development. ION’s RD&T process engineering team works collaboratively with each other and with other engineers in mechanical engineering and process controls space. At times, the role interfaces with ION’s Execution Team to support large-scale commercial deployment. This role will report directly to the Senior Director, Advanced Engineering, RD&T.
Salary Range
The salary range for this position generally ranges between $125,000-$150,000 annually. This range is an estimate based on potential qualifications and operational needs and may vary above or below the stated amounts.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Collects and classifies large datasets from across pilot programs to determine novel interrelationships between variables
- Regresses data in current ION process models to further strengthen knowledge and confidence with current simulation tools
- Thoroughly explores process opportunities to improve potential commercial-scale options in different economic environments
- Develops first-principles based simulation tools for use with existing and future ION technologies
- Documents process methodology, controls, and quality standards
- Identifies performance standards and provides expertise in solving complex technical problems
- Analyzes, interprets, and documents data through graphs, charts, and reports so that they are digestible for both technical and non-technical audiences
- Presents findings and new ideas/plans through oral and written reports, presentations, and project proposals
- Takes direction from the Sr. Director of Advanced Engineering, refines RD&T project scope and objectives, and ensures RD&T project execution is in alignment with goals
Qualifications, Education & Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering or related field with extremely strong experience in a highly developmental setting
- Doctorate degree in Chemical Engineering or equivalent strongly preferred
- 4-10 years of relevant process engineering and/or process modeling experience
- Practical process experience from pilot plant campaigns strongly preferred
- Detailed understanding of process modeling and process design tools
- Excellent ability to quickly assess problems and formulate strategies to overcome issues
- Solid understanding of methods and techniques used in CO2 capture from flue gas, industrial process gas and/or gas sweetening
- Affinity for data analysis, regression, and underlying understanding of pilot plant results
- Proactive nature; stays abreast of advancements in technologies and engineering standards
- Works with a sense of urgency and demonstrates the ability to adapt to changing priorities
