Dr. Buz Brown

Founder, CEO, Chairman
Buz Brown has over thirty years of technology commercialization and venture creation experience, including large and small companies, academic and venture capital roles, with particular expertise in early-stage high growth companies. Buz was the founder and/or CEO of over a dozen currently operating companies. He received his B.A. from Colby College, his Ph.D. from the University of Rochester, and was a post-doctoral fellow and faculty member at Yale University.

Dr. Erik Meuleman

Chief Technology Officer
Erik Meuleman has over 20 years of experience within the area of technology development for separation processes and has lead numerous international innovation projects with teams based in Europe, Brazil, Australia, Japan, China and USA. Erik has authored 15 peer-reviewed papers and holds three patents. He received his Ph.D. and M.Sc. from the University of Twente in the Netherlands and is an adjunct professor at the Federation University of Australia.

Senior Process Engineer

Full Time

ION is looking for a Process Engineer/Senior Process Engineer (dependent on experience) to support the commercial-scale design and build of a carbon capture plant based on their internationally recognized solvent technology. ION was formed in 2008 with the mission of providing innovative, cost-effective solutions to CO2 capture from industrial and utility sources.


Position Summary

The Process Engineer/Senior Process Engineer (title dependent on experience level) will contribute to a team of engineers on FEED or detailed design projects for the integration of a carbon capture facility with an existing power station. This position will require a hands-on individual with capability to produce high-quality process deliverables according to a schedule and within a budget that meet current project/client requirements. They will develop solutions to complex problems that require a high degree of innovation and ingenuity. Process modeling is a core requirement for the role.


  • Thoroughly explores process configuration options and continuously implements procedures that optimize quality, automation, and efficiency.
  • Develop PFDs, P&IDs, process simulations, design basis, heat and material balances, utilities summaries, hydraulic calculations, equipment specifications, and associated documents.
  • Review engineering documents prepared by other disciplines, sub vendors, and project partners.
  • Lead or contribute to various design review meetings, P&ID reviews, PHAs, HAZOPs, etc., including travel.
  • Supports proposals with process engineering representation during meetings and process modeling results.
  • Identifies performance standards and proactively provides expertise in solving complex technical problems.
  • Analyzes, interprets, and documents data through graphs, charts, and reports.
  • Presents findings through oral and written reports, presentations, white papers, etc.
  • Documents process methodology, controls, and quality standards.
  • Monitors performance and ensures compliance with standards for safety, quality, and productivity.
  • Professionally interacts with the project team, business partners, vendors, and customers to facilitate swift resolution of issues.


Qualifications

  • Solid understanding of methods and techniques used in CO2 capture from flue gas and/or gas sweetening.
  • Expertise with process design, process modeling, documentation, and quality tools.
  • Excellent ability to quickly assess problems and formulate strategies to overcome issues.
  • Expertise in operating/optimizing industrial plant(s).
  • Detail-oriented with exceptional analytical skills.
  • Proactive nature; stays abreast of advancements in technologies, engineering standards, regulations, etc.
  • Works with a sense of urgency and demonstrates the ability to adapt to changing priorities and circumstances.
  • Understanding of safety standards and OSHA compliance guidelines.
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Chemical Engineering.
  • 2-5+ years of relevant experience in a process engineering role.
  • Experience with process modeling tools is required.
  • Technology licensor experience is valued.
  • Process controls or instrumentation experience is valued.


Work Environment

This position operates in a professional office environment and occasionally in industrial settings (refineries, fabrication shops and/or power stations). The job requires an individual to routinely use standard office equipment to oversee technical deliverables, and at times it is required to work remotely on-site at a client location.


Physical Demands

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. The employee may occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. The position requires the ability to stand for long periods of time and easily traverse industrial workplaces.


Position Type, Expected Work Hours & Compensation

This is a full-time position working standard business hours. This position may require the flexibility to work diverse schedules, including evenings, weekends and holidays. On occasions this position may require extensive travel.


Annual salary depending on experience and skill set is $110,000 - $140,000.
